FROM THE PRESIDENT |
On behalf of the Canadian Amateur Tug of War
Association’s Board of Directors, I welcome you to the 1st
Edition of the 2003 CATOWA Newsletter.
The past couple of years have been very busy for your CATOWA executive, who are in the process of preparing applications to a number of Government agencies, such as Sport Canada for funding, the Canadian Coaching Certification Program (3M NCCP) and the Canadian Olympic Committee, (COC) in an attempt to give the “Sport of Tug of War” the recognition that it deserves. We have set both short and long term goals that are directed at building Tug of War in Canada. We realize that the way of the future is to encourage Clubs to build and recognize the importance of both the men’s’ and ladies divisions with all weight classes being represented. We must continue to develop the lighter weight classes, by involving a youth movement of potential pullers, spectators, and a strong support staff. CATOWA must search out and enlighten participants of the sport of Tug of War all across Canada of the significance of being under one Governing body, to erect a strong base for future development and ensure that there is representation by Canada, at all future World Championships. Tug of War, as a former Olympic Sport, must follow the movement set in motion by the Tug of War International Foundation (TWIF) and strive to one day again have it reinstated in the Games. Hopefully one day, Canada will stand on the Olympic podium to receive a medal, in this great sport. Bill Scanlan President (CATOWA) BE PART OF THE MOVEMENT, GET ON THE ROPE |
