NATIONAL TRAINING CAMP PLANNED FOR
CANADIAN TEAMS

DASHWOOD, ON - Jan. 2, 2004

Ontario tug-of-war competitors planning on participating at the World Tug-of-War Championships next September in Rochester, Minnesota are being encouraged to register for the National Training Camp beginning on February 2nd, 2004 in Dashwood, Ontario.  At this initial meeting interested parties will be briefed about the training program and the personal commitment required as well as the protocol involved in entering competition at the international level.

Mr. Jim Connolly, National Coach for CATOWA and himself an experienced veteran in international competitions, sees an opportunity for Canadian teams to enter a wide variety of divisions at the Rochester event including junior and youth teams.  He is quick to point out however, that success in both the Club competitions and the International competitions can only occur with a great deal of hard work and training.  When asked about the makeup of our national entries Connolly replied,  "I still believe in the importance of putting teams in where they can compete and not getting them slaughtered. At this level (world) no team not prepared should be competing."

Thus far the Ladies team from South Easthope and Nissouri have indicated an interest but Connolly is optimistic that others will follow suit and take advantage of this program as the season draws near.

If any club wishes to register, they may <CLICK HERE> to download the registration forms on-line and submit the completed material to Mr. Connolly.
