US TEAMS DOMINATE TUG-OF-WAR COMPETITIONS AT
EMBRO HIGHLAND GAMES

Embro, ON - July 1, 2007
The 15th annual Lafarge Memorial Tug-of-War Championships were held today at the Recreation Center just west of the village of Embro, Ontario. The sunny, cool weather was a factor in bringing out a large crowd of spectators who were treated to an excellent display of tough tug-of-war competitions as well as the traditional Celtic ambience of the Scottish Highland Dancing, Pipe Bands and Heavy Events.

Described by organizers as "the best attended event in years", both team members and spectators were well satisfied with the caliber of  the competition in all five divisions and the degree of sportsmanship displayed throughout the day.

Canadian teams from Bluewater (Dashwood), Ellice (Sebringville), Nissouri (Thorndale), the Region of Peel, the City of Toronto, South Easthope and Zorra (Embro) as well as the visiting U.S. teams from Mount Vernon, Wisconsin, did battle throughout the day in five divisions: Women's 520K, Men's 720K, Co-Ed Catchweight, Women's Catchweight and Men's Catchweight.  At the end of the day, it was our friends from the United States who walked away with the majority of the medals.
